TLDR Review: Sony A95L 77 inch TV
Verdict
The Sony 77 Bravia 4K HDR QD-OLED (model FWD77A95L) is a top-tier television delivering stunning picture quality, brilliant color accuracy, and an impressively sharp 4K HDR experience that lives up to Sony’s reputation. However, it comes with some annoying design quirks like poor cable management, a non-detachable power cable, and a persistent front LED indicator that can detract from the setup experience. The Google TV platform feels clunky and sometimes unstable, so if you’re invested in a smoother streaming interface, pairing this TV with an external streamer like an Apple TV device could be worth considering. Additionally, to get the best audio performance, pairing with a newer AV receiver is recommended due to built-in sound’s lip sync issues. Overall, this is a premium choice for serious home theater enthusiasts who want cutting-edge display tech, but be prepared for some trade-offs in convenience and interface polish.
- Top pro:

- •Brightness and clarity are impressive, making this TV standout even as a computer monitor or for users requiring enhanced visibility.
- •The slim bezel design maximizes screen size without adding bulk, fitting nicely into modern living spaces especially when VESA mounted.
- •The aluminum remote is solid, compact, and features motion-activated backlighting, enhancing usability in low light.
- •Legs can be attached without laying the TV flat, simplifying initial setup and testing.
- •The TV offers excellent color subtlety and sharpness, improving the viewing experience beyond typical OLED and plasma options.
- •Built-in speakers use the screen itself for sound, providing good audio quality directly from the display.
- •Smart features on Google TV are intuitive and the overall performance is smooth with minimal lag.
- •The TV provides a noticeable upgrade in picture and sound quality and is well suited for high-end users looking for premium features.
- •From a trusted brand, this model offers a high-quality build and aesthetic with a sleek, modern design.
Cons
- •USB-2 port can remain powered sporadically after the TV is turned off, causing unnecessary power cycling.
- •The front LED power indicator stays on whenever the TV is plugged in, with no way to disable this glowing light.
- •Cable management is poorly designed; ports located at the bottom left create visible, untidy cables when using the legs or wall-mounted.
- •The large detachable rear panel complicates installation of rear bias lighting strips.
- •Power cable is fixed and non-detachable, which can be inconvenient if the supplied cable is too short and requires extension.
- •The included Bravia camera is considered unattractive and of little practical use after initial setup.
- •Google TV OS can feel clunky and overly pushes users into the Google ecosystem; some users prefer a separate Apple TV device for smoother streaming.
- •Operating system software may sometimes be unstable, occasionally causing the TV to get stuck in app loops requiring manual source changes.
- •Built-in speakers cause lip sync delays when paired with external AV receivers; newer AV receivers with audio delay adjustment are necessary for proper surround sound syncing.
- •Price drops soon after purchase have caused some buyers to feel undervalued or regretful regarding timing.
